James C. M. Hwang (M’81–SM’82–F’94) received the B.S. degree in physics from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., in 1970, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in materials science and engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1976 and 1978, respectively. After 12 years of industrial experience at IBM, AT&T, GE, and GAIN, he joined Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA in 1988. He cofounded GAIN and QED; the latter became a public company (IQEP). He has published more than 250 technical papers and holds four U.S. patents. He received the IBM Faculty Award in 2007.
